Mission Statement and Curriculum
Preschool Enrichment (PSE) is an inclusive, caring community that provides an opportunity for your child to learn the necessary skills and fundamentals to help them be well prepared for Kindergarten. Our program utilizes the Creative Curriculum that accompanies the Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment System. The Creative Curriculum is a play based curriculum that encourages social/emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Teachers meet the needs of individual learners by observing, guiding, and scaffolding learning experiences to identify and encourage the children’s strengths and needs through developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

Where can I find more detailed information about BVSD's Child Care programs?
BVSD Community Schools is committed to, and will work with families on an individual basis to ensure every family in need of child care receives that care. Please contact us at bvsd.childcare@bvsd.org with any questions. We have a bilingual specialist on staff to support our Spanish speaking families. The BVSD Community Schools Licensed Child Care Handbook provides relevant links, protocols and other details for ALL licensed child care programs (EC, PSE, SAC) operating in BVSD schools. The handbook is subject to revisions.
How are the child care monthly rates determined?
Child care monthly rates are based on the total number of school days and hours throughout the year, divided by the number of months covered. This keeps the monthly amount stable to help families plan, and the variation of child care days from month to month are averaged out.
BVSD Community Schools is committed to providing top-quality programs at prices that are competitive with comparable offerings in our community. We are also dedicated to paying our staff and contractors a living wage.
How can I find more CCAP information?
The Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) provides financial assistance to eligible low-income families who need child care benefits for children from birth to age 12. If you are eligible, a portion of the total child care cost will be paid. You can find the CCAP checklist to submit to BVSD Child Care here. For information about CCAP denials and the appeals process, click here.
ADA Accommodations
BVSD assures equal access to after school programs and extracurricular activities for students with disabilities. IEPs do not automatically apply to these programs, so the School District conducts an individualized inquiry about the student’s needs and whether there are reasonable modifications, aids or services that could be provided to allow the student an equal opportunity for participation in the program or activity. These discussions can occur in an IEP meeting, a Section 504 meeting or in an individualized discussion between a coach or activity leader and a parent.
If you believe your student requires modifications or accommodations to access a BVSD PreSchool Enrichment program, please email jasmine.bailon@bvsd.org.
Food Service During the PreSchool Enrichment Day
All PSE students are provided free lunch during the days they attend, and free breakfast and afternoon snack are provided depending on your child's AM/PM schedule.
BVSD Food Services serves fresh and nutritious food every day. This amounts to nearly 14,000 scratch-cooked meals each day! We use healthier, locally sourced, and organic ingredients whenever possible, and we avoid highly processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, chemicals, dyes and food additives.
All of our beef and chicken on the bone and nacho meat is hormone- and antibiotic-free and our bulk milk is local.
Do BVSD employees receive BVSD Child Care discounts?
All BVSD employees receive a 15% child care tuition discount for their children enrolled in SAC, PSE or Early Connections.
BVSD direct service child care employees are eligible for free child care contingent upon funding and other restrictions. Click here for details on all BVSD employee discounts.
What safety protocols are implemented in the Child Care programs?
The Community Schools Childcare programs have been running all childcare options (infant care, preschool, school-age and summer camps) continuously since the pandemic began. We align with the school district guidance to ensure that safety protocols are consistent at all of our sites.
As a part of our high quality practices we are on heightened alert for symptoms and enacting a more stringent sick policy to avoid having sick children or children with potential contagious symptoms in the program. Per health department requirement, our staff members are frequently cleaning and disinfecting all spaces and objects that are used during programs. Increased frequency of handwashing for staff and children throughout the day. If you have been asked to quarantine because of possible exposure to COVID, do not enter our buildings or take part in your enrolled programs. We appreciate your compliance with this very important policy.
Guidance and regulations may change, please check back regularly for updates.
Are there behaviors that could lead to a child being terminated or suspended from the program?
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner compatible with the school's function as an educational facility. Steps are taken for serious behavior problems which include written reports, behavior contracts, additional positive reinforcement techniques, and discussions with parents to create a plan for change. All steps taken will be documented prior to the suspension/expulsion of a child due to behavior concerns.
In the rare occasion when the situation cannot be resolved, suspension/expulsion of the child from the program may occur. Behavioral issues following a suspension will be reviewed by the programs Coordinator, Child Care Manager and may include additional district level leadership which could result in the inability to attend our programs. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
A child's enrollment may be terminated or suspended immediately for the following reasons:
- Leaving the direct supervision of a staff person, referred to as eloping or running, directly compromising the staff's ability to maintain child care licensing rules and regulation required ratios as a licensed provider
- Behavior by a child that poses a threat to the safety of him/herself or others; including directly disobeying a staff person.
- Behavior by a child that is continually disruptive to the program and it’s participants and staff
- Destruction to the property of the program, school, staff or peers
- Behavior by a parent which is disrespectful to staff, children or community
- Non-payment, late payment or return of payments by financial institution
