What will the day look like?
After the final school bell, students promptly check in and are served a healthy snack. The schedule includes group time, active play, quiet time, and structured activities like STEM projects, arts & crafts, and global enrichment. The day ends with choice time in various learning zones, such as the creative zone, construction zone, and connection zone. Pick-up is any time before 6:00 PM. Our program supports the academic, physical, and social/emotional development of every child.
My child attends school in another school district. Are they eligible to attend the BVSD school age care program?
What will pick up and drop off look like?
Each BVSD School Age Care program operates within a unique school layout, so procedures may vary. Each site has designated doors for drop-off and pickup, clearly marked for parent guidance. Parents will receive specific instructions and a site map upon enrollment. Every site is equipped with a cell phone for communication, and staff will assist with sign-in and sign-out to ensure a smooth, safe process.
Which spaces in each school will SAC be able to use?
What is the School Age Care procedure if BVSD has a two-hour delayed start?
What is the School Age Care procedure for days when BVSD after school activities are canceled?
Does a child need to be potty trained to attend the SAC program?
Yes. The SAC program is unable to enroll children that require toileting assistance on a regular basis. We operare the before and after school programming in multipurpose spaces that do not house easy access to bathrooms, or sanitary diaper changing spaces that allow for privacy and proper health practices to be followed. Regular bathroom supports require a child care staff member to leave the supervision of other children and violate state licensing rules and regulations for maintaining a ratio of 1:15 as a licensed provider. A child should refrain from enrolling in SAC until they are able to independently go to the bathroom without the assistance of staff.
ADA Accommodations
BVSD is committed to providing equal access to after-school programs and extracurricular activities for students with disabilities. While IEPs do not automatically extend to these programs, the School District will conduct an individualized assessment to determine the student’s needs. We actively partner with parents in this process to ensure compliance with the ADA by providing reasonable modifications, aids, or services necessary for the student to have an equal opportunity to participate in the program or activity. These assessments can be conducted during an IEP meeting, a Section 504 meeting, or through a personalized discussion involving the parent, coach, or activity leader.
In instances where reasonable modifications cannot be provided, it may impact a child's ability to attend the program or activity for their own safety and well-being.
If your student requires modifications or accommodations to participate in a BVSD School Age Care program, please email jasmine.bailon@bvsd.org.
What are the hiring qualifications for the School Age Care (SAC) staff?
SAC Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors must have a four year college degree with an education or related major or a comparable combination of college education and child care employment experience. All non-supervisor staff must have at least 460 hours of full time verified experience working with children. You can see the full requirements here.

Which entity licenses the School Age Care program?
Welcoming children with special needs
No child is excluded from participating in any of the activities or programming offered by SAC. SAC does not have access to para support and implements ADA accommodations; for this reason, as a part of our enrollment process, we schedule individual phone calls with families when children with any health or educational needs enroll in our programs. During this time, we learn more about your child's needs and how to provide a successful environment based on their personality and the valuable insight families offer. We also answer questions for families about what the programming looks like as we know multi-aged group care may be a new experience.
Emergency Medication and Health Care Plans
Parents are liable for disclosing and informing School-Age Care of any current, new or changes in Emergency Medication or Health Care Plans before a child attends. If enrollment forms do not properly align or indicate your child's healthcare needs, we are unable to take the appropriate steps to meet their needs.

What are the child care absence policies?
No refunds or credits will be given for school closings, days off, sick days, snow days, illness and health quarantines, or family vacation days. Regular tuition and fees will be charged for all absences. This policy is in place because the cost for staff and programming remains the same when children are absent.
What is the SAC Cancellation Policy?
Are children from another BVSD school able to attend a SAC program?
No. There are no transportation options between schools for SAC at this time. For safety and security reasons, we only offer SAC during the school year to children enrolled in that school. SAC serves children actively enrolled in Kindergarten - 5th Grade.
Children who attend an out-of-school program are able to join Adventure Camps or Summer programming only.
Are there behaviors that could lead to a child being terminated or suspended from the program?
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner compatible with the school's function as an educational facility. Steps are taken for serious behavior problems which include written reports, behavior contracts, additional positive reinforcement techniques, and discussions with parents to create a plan for change. All steps taken will be documented prior to the suspension/expulsion of a child due to behavior concerns.
In the rare occasion when the situation cannot be resolved, suspension/expulsion of the child from the program may occur. Behavioral issues following a suspension will be reviewed by the programs Coordinator, Child Care Manager and may include additional district level leadership which could result in the inability to attend our programs. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
A child's enrollment may be terminated or suspended immediately for the following reasons:
- Leaving the direct supervision of a staff person, referred to as eloping or running, directly compromising the staff's ability to maintain child care licensing rules and regulation required ratios as a licensed provider
- Behavior by a child that poses a threat to the safety of him/herself or others; including directly disobeying a staff person.
- Behavior by a child that is continually disruptive to the program and it’s participants and staff
- Destruction to the property of the program, school, staff or peers
- Behavior by a parent which is disrespectful to staff, children or community
- Non-payment, late payment or return of payments by financial institution
How are the child care monthly rates determined?
How does BVSD Community Schools determine pricing for its programs?
Do BVSD Employees receive a discount for Child Care programs?
How can I find more CCAP information?
The Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) provides financial assistance to eligible low-income families who need child care benefits for children from birth to age 12. If you are eligible, a portion of the total child care cost will be paid.
New CCAP Policies for School Year 24-25
Billing for Absences
Any excessive absences not covered by CCAP will result in tuition charges. A fee of $10 per missed day/per child not covered by CCAP will be applied.
Non-School Adventure Camps
Each camp has a registration and cancellation deadline. Please email bvsd.childcare@bvsd.org before the deadline(s) listed on our website (one week prior to the camp date). Otherwise, if your student is absent during a non-school Adventure Camp and CCAP does not cover the absence, there will be a fee based on your county's daily full-time payout rate.
Why does a child need to wait until their 5th birthday to attend SAC?
SAC serves children actively enrolled in Kindergarten - 5th grade.
We operate under the Department of Early Childhood (DEC) rules and regulations as a licensed childcare provider, this guidance often varies from the traditional school days capabilities and is more strict on allowable ratios and group sizes. We provide service to a mixed age group 5 years to 16 years of age, and this allows a 1 adult per 15 children ratio. Serving even one child in our program any number of days before their 5th birthday reduces the number of children allowed in our programs. This is because 4-year-olds need to adhere to a ratio of 1 adult per 12 children while they are in attendance at any time.
This would change our staffing needs while any children under age 5 are in our program, therefore we wait until a child's 5th birthday to allow attendance.
How do BVSD Child Care waitlists work?
When space becomes available at a site, families will be contacted in the order they appear on the list. An email and/or text (if communication preferences were selected in School Mint) will be sent on the same day to the families eligible to enroll.
- There is a time limit on the offer - 48hrs to accept/reject
- There is a time limit on the enrollment window for choosing a start date: 7 days-2 weeks from registration date, and in some circumstances up to one month.
- If there is a code needed to enroll, instructions on not sharing the code will be provided
Can my child attend outside their identified schedule or for drop-in care?
As a program we plan and prepare staffing and site coverage based on the enrolled children for each individual day. We are unable to veer outside of identified schedules, or provide drop-in care for quality purposes.
Children are not permitted to attend locations outside their home school other than for Adventure Camps and Summer Camps.
